Partners in Healing

Created in response to the social and emotional fallout from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, Partners in Healing integrated mental health concepts and interventions with youth development in the context of community-based afterschool programs.

To implement Partners in Healing, PASE partnered with New York University’s School of Social Work, the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, the Mental Health Association of New York City, Youth Communication and Safe Horizon. With these partners, PASE developed a curriculum, published the Partners in Healing Directory of Mental Health Programs and Services for Youth and Families in New York City, and provided on-site technical assistance for youth practitioners at 22 sites across the city, in order to build the capacity of youth workers to identify, respond to, and assess the mental health needs of young people and, when necessary, refer them to appropriate additional mental health services.

The Partners in Healing Directory of Mental Health Programs and Services for Youth and Families in New York City details almost 200 agencies throughout the five boroughs that offer mental health services for children and families. It can be used by youth agencies to build relationships with neighborhood mental health providers, and to assist parents and teens in accessing services.
