But the work is not done! With your support, PASE is launching a new decade of service, support, and celebration. Young people all over New York City rely on afterschool programs for essential learning, much-needed recreation, and safe spaces in out of school time. On Tuesday April 8, 2008 PASE held the 10th Annual PASEsetter Awards, honoring five of the city’s most innovative and dedicated afterschool professionals. Almost 500 afterschool supporters – including leaders from the corporate, academic, political, and philanthropic sectors – gathered to help PASE celebrate the hard work of these individuals and launched our second decade of service to the field of afterschool education. We look forward to providing strong and innovative leadership in the exciting decade ahead!
The hours a young person spends outside of school offer both the greatest risk and the greatest potential for personal growth. For many of New York City’s young people, particularly those from low-income areas, afterschool programs bridge the gap between school and home, enabling them to develop the crucial supercognitive skills required for success in the 21st century, including teamwork, self expression, respect for difference, and critical thinking.
PASE connects and serves more than 1,600 community-based organizations serving half a million young people throughout New York City. As the city’s leading provider of professional development for afterschool staff, PASE offers an average of 1.5 training events every day, reaching more than 3,000 individuals each year.
The annual PASEsetter Awards honor and recognize the essential role afterschool educators play in the lives of the city’s youth. PASEsetter winners exemplify the innovation and commitment that drives the field of afterschool education and changes the lives of countless young people in New York City and beyond.
Award recipients received a crystal award and, as a special honor for the 10th Annual PASEsetter awards, a $10,000 contribution to their agency! Winners will also r eceive a feature article and photograph in the PASE newsletter and on the PASE web site.
