Effective outcomes-based planning and assessment can be a powerful method for continuous program improvement and sustainability. Through this three-session institute, participants will gain a better grasp of the “mysteries” of outcomes evaluation and clarification of jargon; have opportunities to identify program outcomes; and practice ways of integrating outcomes based thinking into day-to-day practice. This two-session institute will provide a forum for participants to learn techniques for effectively communicating with youth about sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and to plan individualized strategies for promoting discussions and education about sexuality in their afterschool programs. At the end of the institute, participants will have learned how to create an “askable” and approachable environment for youth to talk about SRH and other sensitive topics. Participants will also have developed a plan to transform the physical environment at their respective agencies into a more SRH-Ready environment through the use of educational materials, new administrative policies, and other resources.
Participants are required to attend both days of the institute. Sites can register up to three staff members for this institute. If space permits closer to the workshop date, we may be able to allow additional staff members to attend as well.

2/7 & 2/14 - Developing an Afterschool College Awareness Program Click for More
For low-income youth, afterschool programs in their communities are a critical resource – and often their only resource – for broadening their educational opportunities and helping them prepare for college. Afterschool programs are ideal settings to create a “college-rich” environment where applying to and attending college become less of an anomaly and more of a natural next step toward larger life goals. This two day institute will explore key aspects of effective college prep programs including appropriate staffing, engagement of parents/caregivers, and connecting with middle schools, high schools and colleges. Participants will also gain a better understanding of the design components that best meet young people’s academic and social emotional needs as well as how to provide support around the college application process.
By institute’s end, participants will have a better sense of what aspects of college prep services they have the capacity to provide and will walk away with the beginning of an action plan for next steps they will take at their sites.
Participants are required to attend both days of the institute. Sites can register up to three staff members for this institute. If space permits closer to the workshop date, we may be able to allow additional staff members to attend as well.
